When the laundry room becomes a natural extension of the home

For Karin Boo Wiklander, it was important that the laundry room felt like a seamless extension of the rest of the home. Using IKEA METOD cabinets, complemented by Superfront fronts and cover panels in Alabaster Wood, she created a warm and harmonious space where functionality meets Nordic design.

We spoke with Karin about her inspiration, the beauty of natural materials, and how a thoughtfully designed laundry room can become an integrated part of the home.

Superfront offers a level of design that feels both thoughtful and timeless, while maintaining an exceptionally high standard of quality.

What inspired your choice of materials, colours and details for the laundry room?
I wanted the laundry room to feel like a natural extension of the rest of our home. We have a warm Scandinavian style with lots of natural materials and soft, muted tones, and it was important that this space reflected the same level of care. Alabaster Wood immediately appealed to me because it adds warmth and character in a subtle way. I love spaces that feel minimal yet inviting, where the texture and quality of the materials can speak for themselves.

Why did you choose Superfront for the project, and how would you describe the quality of the products?
For me, the opportunity to refresh what we already had, rather than replacing everything, was very appealing. I value making sustainable choices and love the idea of giving existing cabinets a completely new look through beautifully crafted details. Superfront offers a level of design that feels both thoughtful and timeless, while maintaining an exceptionally high standard of quality. The fronts feel solid, the finish is beautiful, and the overall result has truly elevated the space.

Do you have any advice for someone planning to renovate their laundry room?
My best advice is not to think of the laundry room as purely a functional space. It’s a room we use frequently, and when it feels thoughtfully designed, everyday life becomes a little more enjoyable. Invest in good storage, quality lighting, and materials you genuinely enjoy seeing every day. And don’t be afraid to create a space that feels connected to the rest of your home—it makes a big difference to the overall feel.

What inspires you most when designing your home, and are there any materials or styles you always come back to?
I draw a lot of inspiration from nature, Scandinavian design, and spaces that feel calm and harmonious. I’m always drawn back to natural materials like wood, stone, linen and wool because they age beautifully and create a warm, inviting atmosphere. I love a pared-back aesthetic, but I also want a home to feel lived-in and personal. For me, it’s all about finding the balance between simplicity, warmth and timeless design.

The laundry room is a space we use every day, and when it feels thoughtfully designed, everyday life becomes a little more enjoyable.

How do you want people to feel when they step into your home?
I hope they feel a sense of calm. I want it to be a place where people can relax, unwind and feel genuinely welcome. To me, the most inspiring homes are the ones that feel personal rather than perfect, and that’s exactly the feeling I want to create. Our home should feel warm, harmonious and inviting—a place where both we and our guests enjoy spending time and want to stay just a little longer.
