Questions & answers about kitchens
Minor scratches and wear are a natural part of everyday use – but they’re easy to fix. We offer products for maintenance and touch-ups in our category Kitchen maintenance.
To improve small marks, you can use our Touch-up paint, developed to match our colours. We also offer touch-up paint for several discontinued colours, so you can maintain your kitchen over time.
The quickest and simplest way is to place the order yourself on our website. When you have put together the products you want, check carefully to make sure that your order is correct. Placed orders can only be cancelled within 48 hours of receiving your order confirmation. This is because we make your order according to your specific requests.
You can also let our kitchen designers help you with designing your Superfront kitchen and placing your order. Read more about the Design help here.
Yes, you buy all your Ikea products, such as cabinet frames, drawers, shelves and hinges, at Ikea. Either in one of their stores or in their web shop.
Do you already have an Ikea kitchen in your home without knowing which cabinet frame it is built on? Take a look at our list of things that characterize Ikea's new Metod frame and the former, discontinued Faktum frame (2000-2013) – as well as the differences between them. Measure and compare with your kitchen!\
We can only guarantee that the products in our kitchen range fit Ikea's series Metod and Faktum.
No, we do not sell countertops for kitchens. If you want a stone worktop, we recommend contacting your local stone supplier.
Our Plinth for Metod is 16 or 16 mm thick, 8 cm high and 220 cm long, and can be jointed and cut on site as needed. If you have a Faktum kitchen, you will instead need our 16 cm high Plinth.
An end panel is placed on the outside of the cabinet frame to get the same colour all over. Our 8 and 9 mm thick end panels are only for aesthetic purposes - they make your kitchen look coherent and provide an exclusive expression. Our 16 and 16 mm thick end panels can also be placed on their own, without being attached on the outside of a cabinet, and offer a supportive function. These are used primarily when you have a dishwasher at the end of a row of units, but can also be used in the entire kitchen for a more robust feel.
Superfront tip! If your kitchen design requires a supportive 16 or 16 mm thick end panel, we recommend, for aesthetic reasons, to choose this thickness for all end panels.
A filler piece is a piece that fills gaps, for example, you can use it to fill in the gap between the end of a cabinet and a wall.
The material used has to be at least 16 mm thick in order for you to have something to screw into when you fit the piece into place. Avoid having open sawed ends near wet areas. A lacquered surface is best but if that is not possible be sure to seal the sawn part using paint or silicone.
Superfront tip! A side or a front is enough to make several filler pieces. You can easily cut it to the right height and width.
A filler piece should always be placed between a cabinet and a wall. It enables you to open cupboard doors and drawers without them scraping the wall, but is also necessary for aesthetic reasons.
It is either screwed or glued into place.
Superfront Tip! The neatest way is to place it in line with the cupboard doors. This requires a bit more work, but what aren't you willing to do in order for it to look as nice as possible in the end?
You would have to join together two pieces. The most common method is to put the seam in the least visible place or in line with another seam, for example where two doors meet.
A ceiling filler is a piece filling the space between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling. It could be for aesthetic reasons or to be able to open the doors without them jamming against uneven parts of the ceiling. Avoiding having to clean the top of the cupboards is also a good reason.
We offer two formats: 60x80 cm and 45x80 cm. All designs are available for the 60 cm wide fronts, while the 45 cm wide fronts have fewer options due to difficulties with pattern fitting on the odd size.
Superfront tip! It's also possible to have several fronts disguising a dishwasher that is 60 wide, for example, two 60x40 fronts will look like two drawers where you have your dishwasher. Don't forget that when you choose this type of solution, you will need to purchase a connecting rail for fronts at Ikea.
Our fronts only fit so-called "integrated appliances". We can ensure that they fit Ikea's integrated dishwashers. If you choose another supplier of major appliances, it is up to you to check that the fronts fit in size.
Most dishwashers come with a mounting rail, as is the case when you buy household appliances from Ikea. But as a precaution we advise that you double-check with the appliance supplier.
As Ikea's household appliances fit our size format, we recommend them. If you choose to buy your household appliances from another supplier, make sure that they fit Ikea’s cabinets and our fronts.
