The art of designing through colour

Created by an interior architect with a passion for harmony, the space was designed to feel more like a living room than a traditional kitchen — built on warmth, rhythm, and a sense of happiness. Each detail reflects a thoughtful balance between craftsmanship, function, and emotion — brought together through a combination of two custom NCS colours.

Emelie has used NCS 1020-Y50R and 5020-Y60R in her kitchen. Colours may appear differently depending on light and environment.

This isn’t the first time we’ve chosen Superfront, and we’re just as happy now as we were before.

What caught your attention in the design? How did you come up with the combination of different lacquered colours?
When I design a kitchen, I always start with the whole – how the room should feel – and then move on to the details. In this project, where we moved the kitchen into a new room, I wanted it to feel more like a room rather than a traditional kitchen. At the same time, it needed to be practical, with a good flow and easy to keep clean. That’s why I chose smooth fronts for the work areas.

The combination of lacquered fronts gives a timeless feel while creating an interesting rhythm in the kitchen. In addition, the smooth fronts can easily be repainted if you ever want to change the colour.

How has your experience with Superfront been?
It’s been smooth and easy from start to finish, and we really appreciate that the communication has been both personal and professional.

How did the installation go?
The installation went very smoothly. I particularly appreciate the small details, like the washer on the inside of the handle – details like that make it feel carefully considered down to the smallest element.

How does the kitchen feel now, and how do you find the quality?
The kitchen turned out exactly as we dreamed of. It’s a room where we gather and cook delicious food. We’ve had friends tell us several times, “I’ve never seen anything like it,” and I think that’s wonderful! The quality feels solid and durable.

Do you have any tips for others planning to renovate their kitchen?
Start with the layout and the practical aspects – the flow in the kitchen has to work! When it’s time for design and colour, I think you should base your choices on the feeling you want to create in the room. Also consider which colours suit you personally, and how they harmonise with the character of your home or apartment.

When I design, I always start from a feeling – and for me, that feeling is happiness. Happiness is timeless, warm, and something you can never have too much of.

You’re an interior architect – what’s important to you when designing your own home, and what inspires you? As an interior architect at my company, Bruno Designstudio, I work with many different expressions and environments. When I decorate my own home, it can sometimes feel more difficult – simply because I know how many possibilities there are. That’s why I hold on to one guiding word: happiness. It’s the feeling I always want to convey in our spaces. Happiness is timeless, warm, and something you can never have too much of.

Most important of all is that the home feels personal and reflects the people who live there. Our kitchen is a good example of that: moving it into another room was an obvious choice for us. Now we have a view of the garden, can watch the children play while we cook, or stand by the kitchen island sharing a glass of wine with friends.

How has your new kitchen changed everyday life – both practically and emotionally?
The kitchen has truly become the heart of the home. It’s where we have breakfast, craft, cook dinners with friends, and share everyday moments. Placing the kitchen in the centre of the house has also improved the flow. You always spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and loving the room you’re in makes everyday life both easier and more enjoyable.
